Why Whole Foods Offer More Nutrients Than Processed Meals

Many people today are paying closer attention to what they eat, especially with so many meal choices available in stores and online.

Understanding why whole foods offer more nutrients than processed meals can help individuals make more confident choices for their daily eating habits.

Whole foods deliver more natural  vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants because they are consumed in their original or close-to-original form. The nutrients inside them remain intact, and this strength is one of the main reasons they are so valuable. When foods go through heavy processing, including refining, bleaching, heating, and chemical preservation, many of the nutrients are reduced or completely removed. For example, when grains are refined to create smoother textures and longer shelf life, much of the fiber and essential B vitamins are stripped away. Although some manufacturers later add synthetic vitamins to replace what was lost, these additions rarely match the natural complexity of nutrients found in whole foods.
